This is a requested video a subbie wanted to see how I achieved the look from my wig review video. So I'm posting the tutorial now. Let me make this clear: When I started this video I was going for a different look, and I ended up changing the process and palettes half way through which is why I have so many products namely palettes being used in one video. This look can be done with literally one palette with warm tones. I suggest the Jaclyn Hill palette or even the Violet Voss palette.

I have a Pinterest page. I love Pinterest, there are so many SO MANY looks are on there. I wanted to try out some of them so I decided to make a serious out of it! Then I found a look that was just CALLING ME! Here is the Look:

So I found that gorgeous look on Pinterest that I just had to try and recreate. I was feeling this look so much! Green is my favorite color and I was listening to my Ludacris albums and I just got lost in the makeup and music. I made a few mistakes but I fixed it so that it would work for me. Anyway, enjoy. Tricky Hair is a hair extensions company that specializes in 100% Remy Hair Extensions. They have now expanded their brand and added 3D Mink Lashes. Their brand is called Tricky Lashes and I have to say they are BOMB.com! Now I'm gonna be honest I've never been a "stickler" for lashes with my makeup looks. I always thought of using eyelashes for special occasions like Balls, Homecoming, Weddings, Formal Dinner Parties, etc. Anything outside of the norm. But after wearing this lashes I fell in love with them. They are so luxuriously soft and bold. Let me give you a little info about my experience with the company and a full blow by blow of the lashes and their quality.

I received my lashes within a 2-week window. I never had any issues with the delivery. They were in pristine condition when I received them via DHL. I opened my box for the lashes and I was floored by the sheer beauty of them. They came in a cool eye package and when you open them up omg, let me show you what I mean....


Do you see what I mean? Well, let me give you a closer look....

So I'm scrolling through my Facebook timeline and I come across this story from the Huffingtonpost with this headline: Forget Wigs, Lace Front Eyebrows Are Taking Over. At first I thought this was a joke. Until I actually read the article and found out that these "eyebrows" are sold at a texas beauty salon called Tiffani Chanel Luxury Hair. Tiffani Chanel Luxury Hair has a wide range of products from custom made wig units, weaves, etc. They have 2 kinds of units for lace eyebrows: male and female. And they only cost $22.50.

Some people are even making their own brows. Crazy, right?! Here check out this youtuber:



There are countless other videos on how on put these eyebrows on. This trend stems from the trend of the full thick but shaped brow. Cara Delevingne is a good example of a person being revered for their brows. She's like the number one person people want to model their brows after. So to gain that look they go for eyebrow pencils, powders, wax pencils, stencils, and now lace brows.

I'm not against the trend for people who suffer from alopecia, lupus, cancer, hereditary baldness, or any other disease that can cause hair loss. These types of diseases and hereditary complications are all plausible reasons for a person to purchase these brows. But if you are just a normal person looking for that perfect brow then I just think that this is ridiculous. Do what we all do buy some serum for eyebrows and lashes and let it grow. There is no need to look like this:

Famed makeup artist Nick Barose, the man responsible for enhancing the already stunningly beautiful Lupita Nyong'o. He sat down with Essence and explained what he keeps in his makeup bag to give his clients the looks that everyone is clamoring for. But more importantly the various looks of Lupita Nyong'o. Nick Barose is a master in his field and I'm so glad that he has given Essence a peek into makeup bag and some small techniques that can be used by an everyday woman.



Below are all the products listed by Nick Barose via Essence Magazine. You will read my experience (and non experience) with some of them and you will also see the price and where to find them.


MAC Matchmaster Foundation

I've actually never used MAC foundation but it seems to be quite popular. When I visited the site they had colors for the typical skin tones: Light, Medium, Dark (or rather their version). They don't very in terms of shade but mixing foundations is encouraged. The foundation is pretty pricey at $32 a bottle but for MAC you pay for quality. Its always top shelf and I can pay for quality, at least its worth the price. Here's what the makeup artist Nick Barose had to say via Essence.

"This foundation looks like skin, and you can layer it. To find your perfect shade, test foundation on the jawline. When applying, I use two shades, the lightest in the center to brighten up the face. I think that's key to getting seamless application.” —Nick Barose

IMAN Perfect Response Oil Blotting Pressed Powder

I've used IMAN before and found it to be a good product for women of color. But when I used it IMAN didn't have enough color range for me. The colors were either very orange/red or way too light or yellow/olive and way too dark. However that was several years ago and I haven't used or tried any of the newest colors that have been added to IMAN line. The coverage is great, the face primer is absolutely AWESOME and it's a definite must try on the list of foundations/pressed powders for women of color.

The IMAN Perfect Response Oil Blotting Pressed Powder works to absorb oil and leave the face with a matte finish. IMAN can be purchased at your local drugstore (RiteAid, Drugstore.com, Soap.com, Walgreens, CVS, etc). It's pretty inexpensive at $16. I know thats double what Revlon, L'Oreal, Covergirl and Maybelline are charging but look at it this way in terms of drugstore makeup brands they have the widest array of color and they offer the best coverage. Again you're paying for quality so be mindful of that. Its about half of what MAC's foundation costs. Which is a pretty good deal if you ask me.

RuPaul is THE most famous drag queen in the world. A supermodel, recording artist, and mother of all drag queens she's definitely put her stamp on the world! Now she's doing it again! RuPaul has launched her own makeup line called Glamazon. Partnering up with Colorevolution, RuPaul has a unisex perfume and a cosmetic gift set. They are reasonably priced and available exclusively at Colorevolution. I've been subscribed to her channel for years but I had no idea how big her fanreach was. She has over 4.5 million subscribers and over a billion page views. For 2 years Ms. Phan has been working on her own makeup line with L'Oreal. Foundation is like the #1 issue for minorities. There are never enough colors and they are broad enough to ensure that you don't look too dark or too light. So mostly we either mix and match or try to find a foundation that is close to our skin tone. Well I think Michelle Phan has figured out that problem. At $30 a pop these HUGE foundation compacts are affordable and they have a broad spectrum of colors to choose from. Although I would suggest you still mix foundations. They can provide the perfect coverage by mixing. Believe Me! Now below you're going to see my foundation picks from her site:

My face has both warm and cool undertones. During the winter its a little cooler so I like to wear a foundation that has more of a red undertone. In the summer oddly enough my face is a little warmer so I like to tone it down with a foundation that has a olive/yellow undertone to it. And then lastly sometimes I like to mix the foundations to give my face the perfect shade of even tone brown skin. So here are the two shade their very close in color actually:

Her site is very interactive she has tutorials, full length customer reviews, even SWATCHES, its a fun site and Michelle is an awesome person. She's fun perky and makes everything seem effortless. I think everyone would benefit from this Guru's makeup. em cosmetics caters to all ethnicities and I'm so glad because many small and large cosmetic companies don't. But because Michelle has such a diverse fan base it was easy for her to find the various colors for every skin type and color and incorporate that into her line.

In Makeup you advance by doing. There is no shortcut you just have to get up and do it! I have gotten better in my makeup application. My only problem area is my eyebrows but I am working on it ;). Anywho here are some photos of my makeup progression. And some Videos!

In the first half of my makeup applications I was only using one color and not doing any blending or crease cutting. It looked good enough, gave me a small pop of color. In the second of half of my makeup applications you'll be able to see how I began to use certain techniques in my makeup: crease cutting, playing with dark and light colors, giving my eyes shape and dimension.














These are just the different ways I have done my makeup. I've been able to evolve in makeup because I kept at it. Makeup is an enhancement tool. You can do so many creative things with makeup and its simple small techniques that can help you to achieve everything from smokey eyes to simple everyday looks. Just try it out. Marc Jacobs is one of my favorite designers hands down. I have every perfume he's come out with and I love his entire fashion collection. He's chic, original, and knows how to be himself something I envy and admire. And now he's coming full circle with his career by adding Beauty to his repertoire. Marc Jacobs is releasing his makeup line exclusively in Sephora on August 9th, 2013!


Many other designers have tried and failed in the beauty dept but with Marc Jacobs its projected that the line will succeed and make well over $15 Mil between August and December of this year, and in 2014 to make 20 Million.

Explaining the expansion into cosmetics, Marc says:

“I like the transformative qualities of fashion and fashion to me is not just clothing, it’s handbags, it’s shoes, it’s clothes, it’s hair, it’s makeup, it’s fragrance, it’s the whole ritual of making those choices, of enjoying the ritual, of making the choices that will tell the world who you want to be that day.”

Now I've never been one for luxury makeup as I can't afford it. But Marc Jacobs seems to be doing a great job and I can't wait to see what his makeup is like! I may buy 1 piece at a time LOL :)!
